Hey guys, what are some of the trails down in the Bay Area? I heard that some of you guys go to Deer Valley or something like that. Does anyone have any info of good trails to do in a day? All of my regulars are still under snow up here.

Only place I'm aware of to go off roading close enough to the bay area to make it a single day trip is Hollister.

I remember Dave saying that there was some place off of HWY 4 or something. Does anyone know about that?

Cow mountain near clear lake. Is only 2.5-3 hours. Prairie city near Sacramento. Buy it is closed for renovation. there is a tiny obstacle area at Carnegie near livermore.

I've been to Carnegie. Don't bother. It's a bike trail place that built a tiny off road course for trucks as an afterthaught. Cow mountain is just a tad too far for me. By the time you drive 3 hours there and 3 hours back, doesn't leave much time to play on the trails. There is however another place within good "day trip" distance that I forgot about. Its called Frank Raines or something close to it. I went with Carlos and Enrique and played around for a day. Can get quite challenging at parts and there was no map available of the trails back when I went. It also has a long period during the year that it closes down during rainy season if I remember right. There may be maps available now since it's been a while since we went. Carlos or Enrique are the local experts on that place, sure can give you more info about it tomorrow at the MOM.

Don't forget about Frank Raines. That can be fun for a day if you've never been there. When it is wet, it is challenging.

The Deer Valley trail is off of hiway 4, East of Lake Alpine. Gate across hiway 4 at Bear Valley is probably still closed due to snow until the owners of the cabins at Lake Alpine whine to the State that it has to be open for Memorial Day. The other side of the trail is at the dam of Blue Lake, entrance just East of Kirkwood Ski resort. I believe there is a SnoPark at the junction during winter months. There used to be lots of trails in the Bay area on the Peninsula, but Peninsula Open space bought most of the land. Used to also play up by Chuck's house, but Niel Young brought that trail to a close. Morey Point in Pacifica was a fun spot also...oh, those were the days!!

I can't give away ALL of my secret trails!! 3500ft + is dead unless you want a snow trail. Stay low for another month. Now's a good time to explore the lower fire roads. There's enough muck to have fun. When it thaws, I plan to hit Corral Hollow and do some exploring.

The Dodge Ridge trail is very easy but can be a bit challenging in parts when it is rainy or still a wee bit of snow on the trail. Right now it probably still has too much snow on it though. Frank Raines is just OK in my book, probably b/c I grew up going there since it was so close to my hometown.
