Date: Thursday, September 17 to Saturday, September 20

Meeting Place in Gerlach, NV on September 17: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?city=Gerlach&state=NV&zoom=5#a/maps/m::5:40.651699:-119.354201:0:0:/e

I am gauging Interest to see how my folks would be interested in doing a joint run with the Pacific Coast Rover Club (PCRC) on 9/17-9/20.

PCRC is a portland based LR club with members all over the Pacific Coast including WA and OR.

Tim a member of PCRC (he joined us twice during our NCLR Oregon Trail trip this year and last/real cool guy) sent me an email asking if NCLR would be interested.

One of the highlights of the trip will be a rocket launching display in Black Rock by Extreme Performance Rocket Ships folks; they will be launching rockets 9/19-21 which you may want to experience. The FAA clears the airspace around the area, so these are serious rockets.

Told Tim I'd get back to him.

I also ran this ideal with the BODs and they like the ideal but we need a trip leader from NCLR, and need to submit this as a trip request once quantified/have enough interest.

I wouldn't mind being the trip leader providing the details, logistics/planning, but I would like jave a volunteer to be the trail leader pref familiar with Black Rock!

PCRC is limiting this trip to 12 vehicles (PCRC side); I'd like to do the same and limit it to number of vehicles on the NCLR side.

If we have enough interest and ended submitting a trip request for approval, once approved, we will follow all NCLR trip guidelines.

This Black Rock trip is actually part of a longer trip by PCRC. They are actually working their way from Portland, OR to Hart Mtn (3 days), down to Sheldon (3 nights) and then to Black Rock; see PCRC trip details: http://pcrc.net/Default.aspx?tabid=65&ctl=Details&Mid=404&ItemID=85&selecte

We will follow PCRC on their tracks. meet them at Gerlach, spend the next few days with them on Black Rock - looking forward to meet & greet/enjoy camp fire dinner and festivity with these guys!

Hopefully watch some spectacular rocket launches as well!

For info about the Black Rock desert, try www.blackrockdesert.org.
For info about the rocketeers(?), try www.xprs.org

Please note that pets are strongly discouraged at Black Rock.

More details coming.... For now, post if you are interested, and what dates can you make it. Also would you be interested in watching rocket launches? Also post any questions, suggestions or concerns.

I know that some of our members wil be at the LR Nat'l Rally and will not be able to attend Black Rock!

And on that note, this Black Rock trip might be a good alt if you are not planniing to attend the rally and would like do wheel that week.

Who is interested? Post up! Thanks!

Awesome Mike!

Let's see if we can get a few more to make it worth while for a NCLR official trip to Black Rock w/PCRC!

Anyone else!

Understand there will be spectacular rocking launching!

Wonder how fast can I drive my 04 D2 on the playa! :D

If for any reason I don't go to Canada on a family trip, I'm there with you Ron & Monty.:D

Hey, hey, hey! Enrique. Good to hear from you my friend!

Tell us the status of your Canadian plans ay!

Not to be selfish, but if you end up not going, would be great to have the three amigos: Ron, Monty and Enrique on this trip (hope no break downs and have to ride a horse - lol)!

Looking good so far! Do we have a fourth, fifth or sixth amigos interested in joining!

Probably I'd like to limit it to 6 since PCRC is planning on limiting it to 12 of their own members. Brings a potential total of 18 (2 groups: PCRC and NCLR following each other). Anymore would be large group IMO!

In the planning, would be great for one of us to have an ARB fridge to store ice cream, vodka :D.... Will do some load balancing for sure to make sure we help each other out on whatever we need to bring.

As a side note, I will bring Max (my 6 yr old) and might even bring a rocket (off the shelve type), slaps some "D" solid rocket propellants, and join the festivity! :)

More details on this. Just want to get a few more folks and will submit an official trip.

If for any reason I don't go to Canada on a family trip, I'm there with you Ron & Monty.:D

Are you going just to the playa? Or the playa, thru black rock canyon up to stevens camp and back?

Either case, I'll dig up info and bring to BOD mtg.

FYI
Gerlach only has 1 gas station, carries reg and mid-grade only. BYO octane booster.
Also one diner there, burgers are'nt bad, but that was in '03.
Nice small picnic area by water tower too.

Found the paper work, will bring to BOD.

Thanks Rupert for the maps/details re: Black Rock!

Would be great to hit this place next year!

Speaking of next year, I told Pacific Coast Rover Club (PCRC) that we will pass-on the joint run request this year to Black Rock, and perhaps take their offer next year either Black Rock, Oregon Dunes, etc... - we are open to the idea given time permits and no scheduling conflict.

Most people who would have liked to join this trip will be @ the Nat'l Rally or out of town. Enrique (pending trip to Canada), Monty and I are interested, but with the low turn out, it would be best to pass!

Ok, not all "gauging interest" turns out to be an actual NCLR run/trip; that's ok - will save it for the next trip!

C yah; happy trails!
