Does anyone have any recommendations on a good 4 person 3 season tent? Something that can hold up well to rain and wind, easy for 1 person to setup, but not cost an arm and a leg :)

Check out Coleman's line of tents. I think they have a larger one than we have which is a 3 person size. It's served us well for over 15 years and has been used a lot. Also check out Mountain Hardware. I'm not familiar with their product lines but the club gets a killer discount from them. It's top of the line stuff if they have what you want.

Also check out www.sierratradingpost.com . They have an outlet in Reno but the stuff they have in the store is different than what they have in their catalog.

Also www.campmor.com for some fairly good prices.

Thank you for the links! My last tent was a coleman, and it did alright. It was more tent then I needed (7-8 Person) and required help to set it up when I was in hollister. Of course it rained early sat morning and it leaked on me, and on that saturday night it didnt do well keeping the heat in so I froze. I learned my lesson that bigger isn't always better :)

I bought a ent from Northface before and had to return it. The quality is nice but it takes a college degree to set it up with their jumble of support rods going everywhere as well as close to imposible to do alone.

I ended up buying a "free standing" tent for 4, roof pops in place with a single motion and even my dumb behind could make short work of setting it up by myself. Of course with 2 is much faster but it CAN be easiy done alone if necesary. The quality is great. We've used it a couple of times and have been very happy with it. I don't remember the name off hand but if your interested in something like that, let me know and I'll have my wife get me the name of it back home.

I have a Northface 4 person and a large Coleman in the garage and was wondering what to use for the Shaver lake trip- I usually use a RTT but my 10yr old son may be bringing a friend.

Okay so now I am intrested in mountain hardware. I checked it out when Brian mentioned it but when I saw $750 for a 2 person tent, I almost passed out! I didnt see the all mountain tents doh!

The easier the setup the better for me. If I am able to make it to more club events, I probably wouldn't be rolling into the camp site until after dark due to my lenght in drive time. I hate to be knocking on someone's tent asking for help at midnight lol :)

When I was shopping for my 3 person tent 4 seasons tent (got back snow camping 2 weeks ago - PCRover (Gary) and Sasquatch (Dave) were there enjoying beautiful snow weather), I ended with REI (before we had the MH deal) Mountain 3 Tent (pic 2) retail about $360; on sale about 1 yr ago for $260.

I may not be climbing Mt Everest anytime soon, but Lake Tahoe can get pretty darn cold at night even in the middle of summer time. My fav camp site Tuolumne Meadows Campground in yosemite is almost a 9000' and it freeeeezing at night.

The EV 3 looks tough and the price is $750 retail. Cerrtainly, you will be the most well protected guy snow camping in Tahoe with that (can you see camping near Ellis Peak - place we checked out last year)! :)

Has held up to some downpours and snow.

I would recommend the 6 person tent for 4 people as it gives you some room for gear and or space to hang if it really gets nasty. If your camping with the rover your not too worried about the little extra weight. REI often have a sale so you can get 20% off if you time it right.
