Ok, I'm starting a new thread so everyone can comment on the proposed trip to Mojave Trail in March. I'm attaching a Word Document with a draft trip plan, please make any suggested additions/deletions/changes here.

So far, I think we've got 5 rigs ready to run it:

Gary
Ron
Brian
myself

Probably want to limit number of participants to 12 rigs or so I would think.

I'm fired up and ready to wheel!

Chuck, I just got a PM from Tim Goldsmith from Oregon LR group. He wants to join us on the Movaje trip. He can be my guest.

He was @ the Oregon Trail trip last year (Brian probably remembers him; cool guy).

Anyways, he purchased a 97 D1 XD and wanting to take it on this trp. Let me know how you want me to communicate the trip info to Tim (by the ways, he freq LRRForums).

C yah! Thanks for taking on as trip leader!

Why don't you register him, and then send him a message (LRRFORUMS if you want) do the trip planning thread here on NCLR. We can still use this as our main place to post info, etc.

I will probably want to gather up names & phone numbers of participants at some point, so if you can add that to the trip registration database that would be good to..

I added some required fields to the registration form. Anything else you want besides telco and qty of people?

Desertcrawler

Just room for email, tel number of each participant.

Can non-members register? If so, then we may need a NCLR membership status flag..

Nope. That would create to many problems. The hosting member should register for the guest.

Sounds good Ron! If you can register him along with you on the site we will get a good count.

Gary,

Could you update the trip planner to show Tehachapi intead of Bakersfield for our Thursday night rally point? Will make it easier for people from SoCal to meet up with us, plus gets us a bit closer to where we want to be by driving a little bit more out of Bakersfield. Plus Tehachapi seems a little more interesting than Bakersfield as a place to overnight to me.

If you could also post info on what Hotel you think we should stay at (ie the Best Western) if you know of a good one that has a decent parking lot.

Are you bringing a trailer? If so, can you do the last 100-150 miles of road to the trailhead and drop it off near the trail end point, or will we need to arrange a shuttle?

PCRover

Ok, I will change the location.

There is a Travel Lodge, Holiday Inn Express and two Best Westerns.

3/20/2008 AAA Rates for two adults:
Holiday Inn Express: $96
Best Western Country Park $96
Best Western Tehachapi Mountain Inn $83
Travel Lodge says it's booked up.

These prices might be a little high for some though most have Senior, Corporate and Military rates that are lower.

I believe there is a

I can't do the whole weekend, but maybe a day run Sunday or something like that, as I am like 2-3 hours from Barstow, we could chat about it in Shaver...

Bring a kite. (lots if wind)
Don't pick up hitch hikers.:D (large prison)

Now seriously, if anyone needs any info on Tehachapi my sister just moved from there. I can ask about hotels etc...

Desertcrawler

We will be looking for a good, cheap hotel to rally at.

And depending on the maritial status of your sister, perhaps some of the guys may be looking for an introduction!:)

Can anybody provide me with approximate GPS coordinates on where you guys will be Saturday morning and Sunday morning?

I am not sure if any of the 2 is doable, as it may be too hard to find you guys, unless there is some spot near some road I can easily reach and then join the group for either a day or two.

At this point it looks I can only devote Sunday, but I'll try to sneak in Saturday too and camp with you guys.

If not GPS at least some approximation and possible meeting area. Have in mind I've never been in the area.

Also, as I live fairly close, keep my cell phone (I'll PM to however keeps all the trip info) handy if you need anything after you start or you need assistance, parts, ...

David.

We are camping Friday at Piute Springs.

On Saturday, we plan on camping by the Lava Flows (near the Lava Flows). Specifically at Mile 83.6 on the road according to Caselbier's book it looks like it is very near the intersection of Jackass Canyon Road and Kelbaker Road.

It looks like you would need to take KelBaker road about 15 miles out of Baker to the point the Mojave Road crosses (sorry don't have GPS coordinates) and then head east a few miles to find us. The spot I am thinking about camping is right at the end of the flows. (on that side).

As trip time gets closer, I will post GPS coordinates once I figure out my new system. I suspect a few may want to make a dash down to Baker for gas/supplies that evening...

Missed this post; sorry for the late reply; hey chuck, I am not planning to bring a trailer, but I will have my AAA card ready just in case (just need the vehicle on a service road for AAA to tow it! :)
