I was just reading an article about the new NSX and how it's going to be some kind of hybrid(possible front wheels will be powered by an electric motor). With gas prices going up and up(Brenton I was looking at your Mohave pics with gas at $5.29) our vehicles are going to turn into weekend warriors and with fossil fuels turning into just that; fossils, I was thinking whats the next step for Land Rover? Is it going to be a hybrid like the NSX or like the Volt or the Prius, maybe hydrogen powerd or full on electric? What does everyone think is going to happen in the future?

Enrique gave us the idea and Tom help remind me this year re: the 2012 Mendocino Rally (original thread here): http://nclrclub.org/forum/showthread...unteers-Needed

I reached out to Jim Robison, event coordinator for the Mendocino Rally; he is looking for volunteers from our club to help monitor blockage points on the race course @ Cow Mountain OHV during the rally. Ham lic/radio equip is required for this duty: http://mendocinorally.com/ - seems to me Land Rovers as course monitors/blockage points, Rally Cars, Off-Road... are good match (smile).

Duties include sit at your assign post and report via Ham (freq will be provided during orientation) if anyone tries to enter the course illegally, and report on the passage of the rally cars or any issues/problems.

Non-hams is are also needed and may be assigned to accompany a ham operator at these blockage points and can indicate who they want to assigned with.

With this said, bring your Land Rover and let's have a good showing of members on this event. This should be a fun event, PR opportunity and chance to get involved with the rally community plus help Jim Robison who wants to make the Rally an annual event only poss w/the help of volunteers like us.

Here's msg from Jim:

Hi Ron,

Nice to hear from you. The first step is to register and volunteer at RallyData.com. That will get them on the volunteer mailing list. In the comments section, they should indicate that they are in the Land Rover Club. That way we can be sure to assign them to the same teams. I hope to have a special stage that will run much like a rallycross. If we can do it, it would be a great activity for your folks.

Thanks,

Jim

More details to follow but the general agenda are:
- Pre-party Friday night; last year party for volunteers and racers were sponsored e.g. Parducci Winery and Mendocino Brewing Co; Shirts given to volunteers. Avail camping overnight Friday.
- Saturday: volunteers attend training early morning, and report to their assigned location before the start of the race. Looking for our club to cover course blockage on Cow Mountain OHV to keep rally cars on course, and provide communication (ham) support. At the end of the race, award ceremony.

Mendocino Rally: http://mendocinorally.com/index.html

First step, register in the volunteer database: http://www.rallydata.com/default.cfm
- Select the radio button "Mendocino Rally Aug 3 & 4" event, and "I Never Registered Before" (unless you are a returning volunteer)
- Then click "I Want to Log In" button.
- Will bring you to the registration pag. Fill in contact info including email address and contact tel, and if you are a ham operator, provide your callsign and equipment type/model # e.g. 2M Yaesu 2800M and HT
- Also make sure to indicate your T-shirt size (default is large)
- Next mark your availability to volunteer, put Friday night and Saturday day (unless you can only do Sat)
- For now, put Comm (Ham) for the volunteer areas. Jim will provide us more details later.
- And this is important, put "Member of the Northern California Land Rover Club in the comments field.
- Click Submit. Look for email confirmation.

Another msg from Jim:

Ron,

There is always a shortage of hams, so anyone checking Comm (Ham) will be assigned to a radio position, most of which are on course blockage points....

We will have the Red Mountain Campground both Friday and Saturday night. We need to keep the gate locked, but we will have the key, and I can give it to someone planning to stay at the campground. I hope they can attend the welcome party at Parducci Friday night - wine tasting from Parducci and food from Guy Freri, plus a free raffle of assorted goodies.

See you in Ukiah,

Jim

Looking for a writer, idea(s) and volunteers to apply for the Tread Lightly Stewardship Grant Program

Tread Lightly recognizes that one of the best ways to promote responsible outdoor recreation is to get recreationists involved in the stewardship of their favorite recreational areas.

Tread Lightly!’s Stewardship Grants are designed to help individuals and clubs organize clean-ups, trail maintenance work days and other small stewardship projects. The maximum grant amount is $500, and those funds can be used to rent equipment or purchase supplies like garbage bags, water or snacks for volunteers, etc.

With budget cuts, planned trail closures, I think this is one way our club to help local OHV trails and keep trails maintained for outdoor enthusiast like us to enjoy years to come if awarded $500 (free money for us to ask).

Link to grant details and criteria here: http://www.treadlightly.org/page.php...%20grants.html

Deadline to submit application: by 8am June 1, 2012 to Tread Lightly
And work and final report submitted to Tread Lightly by Dec 1, 2012

Anyone up to spear head this? Hollister OHV would be a good one for our club to apply this grant since we are ther 1st Sat of ea month MORG.

We paid $100 to be a club member last time; need to check our prez (Mike) and Treasurer (Jen) to make sure we paid 2012 Tread Lightly club membership; recall the BODs approving the budget for this: http://www.treadlightly.org/page.php...ub-Memberships

Let's do it!

Hey guys/gals, summer is just around the corner and want to get my truck or tucks for me and like others here trucks (plural). Lol. Not naming any lucky guilty folks e.g. Enrique, Carlos.... Ready for camping, wheeling and adventure....

One of my trucks just need a good overall maintenance (CT110) e.g. engine, transfer case and diff oil change... Amazing it has been the most trouble free Land Rover I've ever owned and the only time I had trouble was a new water pump that prematurely died on me while dropping off the kids in school. Changed the water pump in the parking lot and good to go. Nice! Try to do that on my 04 DII - forget about it. Ha!

Another one (DII) needs to have a broker window roller guide fixed (done it before; just need to do it) and install ham radio (and if ambitious dual battery system).

And RRC, needs nothing at this point, but I'd like to get it up on the lift, remove and inspect all HD components including the HD axles and lockers. RRC has been on three diff trail duties including Rubicon twice and Dusy once; about time to check on heavily task parts.

Post up if interested; looking to do this @ Besa Auto on a Saturday wknd and sometime in May/early June; he has 2-3 vehicle lifts and last time we did this; it was a blast, productive, and good LR social event. Will confirm with Rod.

Rumors has it that I someone might bring a mini-bar (of course not while we are wrenching) - after...

Cheers!

Just thought I'd post some pic's of the D44 hidden winch I installed...
It was kind of a PITA, bumper skin was pulled off and on about 30 times to cut and trim in order to make a perfect fit. The winch tray and bumper seem to be well fabricated and extremely sturdy.

A little help if anyone has time...
my husband Paul passed his Technician test last weekend (jumped the gun and took the test with out me). He bought a Kenwood TH-F6A HT. He hasn't gotten the email with his call sign yet. He can't figure out how to program it to connect to a repeater, just can connect to local police and security bands.
If anyone has time to talk to him and school him on this, he would be mighty grateful (and I also, as I will also be taking the exam next month and installing ham in my Rover).
His email is

Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I finally got some new tires for my 2011 LR4. Cooper just started making the Zeon LTZs for the stock 19" wheels in the 255/55/R19 tire size. I thought about switching to the 18" wheels from the UK (Compomotive) to expand my tire options, but right now decided to just get the Coopers since I heard and read great things. Previously, the only off-road tire for the LR4 with 19" wheels were the Pirelli Scorption ATRs.

So far I love them and can't wait to try them out at the May MORG.

Here are a few pictures:
